Pay your bills... donate to charity

What an amazing idea... My old employer, Suncorp, is having a promotion where you can round up bill payments to the nearest dollar and donate the extra to charity. Simply put, when you pay a bill via their internet banking app, you can donate to charity at the same time. The current charity is the Hear and Say Centre, and I'm more than happy to support them.

This is an amazingly innovative idea; certainly I haven't heard of any bank doing anything similar. Collection tins for charities are common enough in post offices, stores, and banks, but in many cases you're either paying by cheque or card (EFTPOS or credit) - there's no spare change to put in the tin. This, however, is simple and convenient - it's one transaction (so no extra charge), you get a receipt, and you can donate more if you want to. Way to go, Suncorp!

(As a side note, the Hear and Say Centre does very valuable work with deaf and hearing impaired children; they deserve all the support you can give them. My own children have used their services for a hearing assessment, and I will be taking plenty of advantage of this donation feature in the future)

Michael:

I am often looking for the coin tins in shops for loose change. They seem to be less common then they used to be. (My small daugher likes emptying the contents of my wallet into the "seeing eye dog" when I sit her on the counter while buying groceries).

nice to see things like this happening in the e-world !
